Encouraged by the victory in the Chilanga parliamentary bye-election, the United Party for National Development (UPND) has gone flat out but ‘quietly’ to campaign for 2011 general elections.

When the UPND defeated the MMD inthe Chilanga bye-election last month, the party boasted that they have won the election without their campaigns being highlited by the media. They accused the media of being biased against them.
But the victory has seemingly inspired a new strategy of campaigning by the Party. Party president Hakainde Hichilema has been going round Lusaka’s shanty compounds meeting people in their homes.
And Hichilema is not ignoring the power of the internet. On his facebook page, Hichilema posted late last week that:
“It is clear that Zambia is ready for change . It is also clear that the greatest problem that our country is facing is that of poverty, joblessness ,hunger etc Friends ,Lets match the choice of leadership to the challenges faced by the Country.Participate in defining the future. Register to vote”
