UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has called on the
country to remain prayerful and peaceful no matter the
provocation by the ruling PF and state police and security
agencies.
Speaking to UPND supporters at Lusaka Central Police,
where he went to offer solidarity to arrested UPND Vice-
President for Administration Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba
(GBM), Mr. Hichilema said the politics of suppression,
intimidation, and oppression have never worked in Zambia
and the will of the people will always emerge victorious.
The UPND leader said the country faces numerous economic
challenges and that hoped that those in leadership would
pay more attention to fixing those challenges than fixing
their political opponents.
Mr. Hichilema, who was accompanied by UPND Vice-
President for Politics Canisius Banda, lawyers and other
leaders, wondered why President Edgar Lungu and his
leadership were abusing state police to persecute those with
divergent and alternative views on how best the country
should be governed.
GBM has been arrested and charged with conduct likely to
cause breach of peace.
