UPND president Hakainde Hichilema, fondly known as HH has declared that his release from the unjust incarceration is incomplete without the release of the many UPND members and sympathisers currently in different jails with trumped up charges.
Speaking when he addressed the party members at the party’s secretariat in Rhodespark HH said that he has come out of prison ten times stronger than he went in and implored on PF to embrace democracy. He declared that if the members are not released and rule of law not respected he would not mind returning to jail. Currently there are over a thousand UPND members detained in different parts of the country facing different charges.
Thanking the international community, the Catholic bishops and all who got concerned with his unjust incarceration, he called on his members to remain calm and closely observe what will unfold in the following weeks.
He said that during his incarceration, the party had received a lot of support from international cooperating partners, foreign and local business community who were complaining of bad economic environment. He promised that once his party is in government they will fix the economy and heal the divisions that have arisen.
Meanwhile the opposition leader added that his incarceration was an opportunity for him to have a closer look at jail life and other hardships so that his government can solve them. He also called on the respecting of one another and also the restoration of people’s and media freedoms.
