UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and party vice president for administration Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba Monday received a thunderous welcome at Kasama airport, where many people flocked to receive them on their way to Luwingu to beef up campaign for Lubansenshi candidate Patrick Mucheleka.
The plane carrying the opposition leaders touched down the airport at 09:50 hrs but people had gathered as early as 07:00hrs in wait. The gathering kept waving the UPND symbol and chanting “GBM, HH, Zambia forward” slogans.
Meanwhile police sources have disclosed that there are instructions from ‘higher authorities’ not to allow the opposition leaders air time on radio Mano. They have paid for a sponsored programme which is scheduled to begin at 17:00hrs but police said they cannot appear on the programme because vice president Inonge Wina is in the area. The police remark angered Mwamba popularly known as GBM who demanded for a law which bars appearance on radio when a vice President is in the area.
GBM argued that both Lungu and Wina live in Lusaka but Lusaka radio stations have been hosting them and indeed other opposition leaders so what was peculiar about Kasama, which was infact his constituency.
