HH given 24 hour ultimatum to condemn anti-Sampa group

The ruling Patriotic Front (PF) in Matero constituency have given opposition United party for national development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema a 24 hour ultimatum in which to come out in open and condemn suspected Tonga tribalists threatening Southern province minister Miles Sampa.
The PF cadres clad in party regalia and carrying placards and banners took to the street in Kabulonga chanting slogans in solidarity for Mr. Sampa amid denouncing the opposition leader Mr. Hichilema.
ZANIS reports PF Matero Constituency Trustee Lee Mukupa saying in an interview that Mr. Hichilema should be blamed and accused him of causing anarchy and practicing politics of division in southern province when Zambia is founded on ‘One Zambia, One Nation motto.
Mr. Mukupa said Mr. Sampa should be given chance to serve the Zambian people in southern province just like he served in the same capacity (ministerial portfolio) the people in Lusaka province .
He strongly condemned the Tonga ‘fundamentalists’  of being uncivilized saying the PF is a disciplined and mature political party which is determined to govern the Zambian people in a mature manner.
“We are here to give solidarity to our area member of parliament Mr. Sampa and we are not here to fight or cause violence but Mr. Hichilema should be blamed should anything happen to our MP,’’ Mr. Mukupa said.
The Matero PF trustee stated that they are rallying behind the leadership of their Mp Mr. Sampa and said Mr. Hichilema will be held answerable should Mr. Sampa be ‘kicked-out’ from southern province.
And Patrick Kangwa, who is PF Matero constituency Treasurer said Zambia belongs to all the 73 tribes and dismissed assertions that southern province is for Tongas only.
Mr. Kangwa asked the opposition leader to co-operate maintaining that Tongas were not superior people over other tribes in the country.
The PF Matero Treasurer said the PF government is here to govern the nation after the year 2030.
“Zambia belongs to all the 73 tribes and not Tongas only. PF under the able leadership of President Michael Sata should be given chance to govern the nation beyond 2030,” Mr. Kangwa said.
But Government has directed investigative wings to ensure that they offer protection to Southern province Minister Miles Sampa and ensure that the people threatening him are brought to book.

Acting Chief Government Spokesperson Emmanuel Chenda told Journalists at media briefing in Lusaka a few days ago that Mr. Sampa recently received a letter in which unknown people were asking him to vacant the province failure to which they would forcefully get rid of him.

Mr. Chenda said the government was equally concerned that some political opponents are trying to use ethnicity to divide the nation and added that Government is duty bound to safeguard the peace and stability of the country stressing that ministerial positions are meant for national duties.
