UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has arrived at Chief Puta’s palace in Chiengi, Luapula province for the Builile ceremony.
Meanwhile, Lusaka mayor Mulenga Sata has also arrived at the same palace with a huge contraband of PF chitenge materials for distributing.
Hichelima and Mulenga greeted each other before going into the main arena. But PF cadres were by 11 hours local time still unpacking and cutting the chitenge materials in readiness for distributing in the main arena of the ceremony.
Hichilema is accompanied by UPND chairperson Mutale Nalumango, trustee Bernard Mpundu and other party officials.
On the political side, OP sources says the PF has cause to worry in Chiengi as UPND is making headways into Chiengi thanks to the work of Nalumango, Mpundu and other local UPND officials. ‘Chiengi is ripe and has gone UPND,’ a senior OP official told the Watchdog.
According to OP sources, Mulenga Sata was specifically sent to Chiengi to try and counter the growing the influence of UPND in the area.
President Michael Sata was invited but is unable to travel. It is not yet clear if Mulenga will represent his father or there will be someone else to represent government.
