HH maintains that recycled politicians to blame for underdevelopment

United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has maintained that there no is need to have the same people who have been in government for over 40 years and failed to perform to continue managing the affairs of the country.

Mr Hichilema who is one of the main contenders in this year’s elections said UPND’s position is that Zambia requires a fresh start under a new crop of leaders.

The UPND leader was speaking during a 2011 Live Presidential debate held at Mulungushi International Conference Centre on Tuesday night which featured three other Presidential contenders.

The trio are Heritage Party leader Brig. Gen. Godfrey Miyanda, National Restoration Party (NAREP) leader Elias Chipimo Jr and Ngandu Peter Magande for the National Movement for Progress (NMP).

Mr Hichilema wondered why Zambia with a population of about 13 million and abundant natural resources should today have about 3.5m people unemployed if the same people who have been circulating themselves in government for over 40 years had performed.

He said there is need to give chance to other people with fresh ideas regardless of their age who have not been in government to manage the affairs of the country so that they can improve the living standards of people.
