United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has promised to set up agro processing industries in eastern province as a way of growing the local economy and creating employment opportunities for the locals.

And UPND parliamentary candidate for Vubwi constituency in Chadiza in the Eastern Province, Hebert Banda says the 20 years of MMD misrule is coming to an end after the September 20 polls as people were anxious for real change.

Addressing a series of campaign rallies in eastern province, Hichilema said his party once elected in office will put in place policies that will facilitate the creation of processing industries in places where there is massive agriculture potential.

Hichilema said the UPND government will put to an end the current trend were agro products such as groundnuts produced within the province are transported out to urban places without any value added thereby depriving the locals job opportunities.

He said his government will work tirelessly to tap the abundant potential in the livestock sector by restocking the province with cattle.

“We are going to embark on a serious cattle restocking programme and improve the local breed so that we can have a flourishing livestock industry in the province,” the UPND leader explained.

Mr. Hichilema who is one of the largest cattle farmers in the country said he would like to see eastern province start exporting canned beef processed locally.

And UPND parliamentary candidate for Vubwi constituency in Chadiza in the Eastern Province, Hebert Banda says the 20 years of MMD misrule is coming to an end after the September 20 polls as people were anxious for real change.

Banda expressed confidence that the UPND will scoop both the Presidential and Parliamentary vote in Vubwi because of the good policies and visionary leadership that the party was offering.

Banda said it was clear from the successful rallies held by UPND president Hakainde Hichilema in the province the past few days that the political tide in the Eastern province was swinging in favour of the UPND.

He said the UPND leader was given a thunderous welcome because people in the constituency have accepted the real change message.

He said the people of Vubwi were tired of the MMD failed leadership and were eager to vote for UPND which was promising real change and a fresh start.

Mr Banda noted that Vubwi was faced with a lot of challenges ranging from poor road infrastructure to high poverty levels which the present government has failed to address.

He noted that UPND has the best economic and social policies and a pragmatic leadership that is well equipped with the necessary competences to deal with the present challenges.

Mr Banda said once given the mandate after the September 20 polls, the UPND government will accord all vulnerable children who have been thrown out of school an opportunity to continue with their education through its free education policy from grade one to college.
