The Tonga Traditional Association (TTA) has removed United Party for National Development (UPND)’s Hakainde Hichilema as its patron.
The TTA instead says it has started campaigning for president Rupiah Banda ahead of this year’s general election.
President of the TTA Dickson Namanza says the position of patron has been frozen because it was held by a politician
He said traditional leaders from Southern province met a few days ago and decided to do away with the position.
He said his organisation wants to concentrate on pure traditional roles. Just after saying that, he said his organisation has started campaigning for the ruling party, MMD.
