HH says Lungu doesn’t understand development as PF/MMD MPs formally join UPND

United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema has charged that outgoing President Edgar Lungu claimed that he has delivered development because he does not understand what development is.
And immediate past Member of Parliament for Luena constituency in Western Province Gertrude Mulumemui Imenda was among several former law makers who officially defected to the UPND.
Speaking when he addressed scores of people who attended the UPND press briefing at Chainama Hotel on Friday, Hichilema started by responding to President Lungu’s Press Briefing which was held at State House and argued that Lungu was claiming to have delivered development when Zambian people are suffering.
‘He doesn’t understand development, if people’s lives are not improving then there is no development,’ Hichilema said.
He said what Lungu has managed to deliver was a bad amended constitution because to him delivering means conducting a signing ceremony at Heroes Stadium at a huge cost.
Hichilema said the UPND was against Lungu’s attempt to maintain the cabinet when parliament has been dissolved adding that if it was money that they were interested in then the he can pay them their salaries as long as they vacate office.
‘I can pay them without them being in cabinet, we want to defend the people’s money,’ Hichilema said amid cheers.
He wondered why Lungu wants to maintain cabinet ministers after dissolution of parliament when his government is failing to pay students meal allowances almost a month after the University of Zambia was reopened.
Hichilema said it was laughable for Lungu to claim that the economy was doing well when the country’s debt stock was ever increasing.
And Hichilema has warned the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) against printing ballot papers for the August elections in Dubai.
He said there was no logic in printing ballot papers in Dubai at a cost of $3.6 million US dollars when the South African firm was charging $1.6 million dollars.
Hichilema has further warned that if the Electoral Commission of Zambia colludes to rig elections with the PF government they will be responsible for what will happen.
He also demanded that Lungu dissolves his cabinet and insure that government vehicles used by the ministers are packed and further demanded that University students must be paid their meal allowances in the next five days.
And immediate past Member of Parliament for Luena constituency in Western Province Gertrude Mulumemui Imenda was among several former law makers who officially defected to the UPND.
Other members who officially joined the UPND and received party membership cards are Professor Lungwangwa, Dr Situmbeko Musokotwani, Dr Christopher Kalila, and Ndalamei Mundia all from the MMD and are the immediate past former members of Parliament from Western Province.
Others are Dr Brigadier General Dr Brian Chituwo from Mumbwa in Central Province while Sara Saifwanda, Kabinga Pande and Elijah Muchima all former MMD members of Parliament from North Western Province.
Copperbelt was represented by former PF Member of Parliament for Nkana Luxon Kazabu who resigned from the PF on Thursday and Gabriel Namulambe from Mpongwe in Ndola.
Others who received their cards from Hichilema are Silvia Masebo from Chongwe, former Sinda MMD Member of Parliament (Eastern Province), former commerce minister Bob Sichinga, Dante Saunders, former Kafue member of parliament under Rupiah Banda Bradford Machila and Dr Charlotte Scot (Wife to Dr Guy Scot).
