UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has attributed the stampede that occurred at the Olympic Youth Development Center to high levels of poverty and hunger in the country.
Ten people died and dozens have been injured in the stampede while fighting for food from some church organisation.
Mr Hichilema says people in leadership have been mismanaging the country’s economy which has led to people struggling to manage descent meals.
He says it is unfortunate that people had to lose their lives in an a effort to get free food.
Mr Hichilema says what happened at OYDC is a clear indicating that there is hunger among the Zambian people.
This morning more than seven people died while many others ehe injured filling a stampede at OYDC .
The victims are among the 35 000 that went to queue up for mealie meal from the Lesedi grouping under church of Christ.
And religious and national guidance minister Godfridah Sumaili has suspended the operations of the church to pave way for investigations .
