HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S STATEMENT POST MANDEVU RALLY
Colleagues, what happened in Mandevu yesterday 6th October 2013, opens a new chapter in the history of Zambian politics.
First let me thank the people of Mandevu who braved the heat to come and listen to what we had to say. When a person keeps quiet to listen to what you have to say, it is important to say something that will be worth their time. My hope is that, this is how the people of Mandevu feel. I am grateful for turning out in numbers. In addition to the heat, the people braved a minor infraction (as expected) of intimidation and fear from the PF. People still flocked to the rally anyway, thank you once more people of mandevu.
I also thank the media that provided the live feed. Journalists from both private and public media, some of whom defied their superiors to come and cover us at the rally also deserve our thanks. We know you mean well, but we understand your circumstances. All media houses that partnered with UPND to carry our message across the country, I say thank you very much for your efforts. Please let us join hands and leave a better country for our children. This is the beginning of a revolution, whose impact is still yet to be felt. We shall cover every inch of this country through rallies and face to face meeting with the people of Zambia.
Our supporters on social media such as twitter and facebook, your role of sharing pictures and updates as the rally was going on cannot go without being mentioned. UPND is really a party of the 21st Century because of you. I will not forget the 380,000 listeners worldwide that tuned in to listen to our message. I am grateful to you all.
Zambia Police, thank you for maintaining law and order before and during the rally. This is the kind of professionalism we expect from a police in a democratic state. Thank you for the job well done.
Lastly, I would like to sincerely thank my secretariat who worked so hard to ensure that this rally takes place and is a success. I cannot ask for any better team than this. I would also like to thank the UPND leadership that gave me support before and during the rally. Your role in making UPND the party it is today is beyond measure.
To the Zambian people, I pledge to give you a Government that will address the challenges you have faced for the past 49 years. I can only wish you all the best and God Bless you all.
