HH says Zesco load shedding is due to PF bad leadership

United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has charged that Zambia is technically bankrupt.

And Hichilema has said that the problems affecting ZESCO were as a result of bad leadership of the PF government.

Speaking on a local radio station Friday morning, Hichilema said the PF government will borrow 8.7 billion dollars in three and half years beating the 7 billion dollars that UNIP borrowed in 27 years.

He said the PF was placing the country in a debt trap because they are borrowing to finance loans instead of using the money for investment to grow the economy.

Hichilema said it was now becoming difficult for investors to manage their budgets because of lack of consistence in the fiscal regime.

And Hichilema has said that the problems affecting ZESCO were as a result of bad leadership of the PF government.

He said the difficulties that were affecting ZESCO are serious and will continue for a long time adding that the PF government does not have a solution to the problem.

He pointed out that when the PF formed government in 2011 they retired qualified engineers from ZESCO on tribal lines and perception that they did not support the PF and replaced them with PF cadres.

Hichilema Said the ZESCO load shedding will reduce production in all sectors and eventually cause job losses.

And on the Mulobezi by-election Hichilema said the result would have been different had the PF police not detained over 60 UPND members because the PF only won by 24 votes.

He said the motive of the detentions was clearly to deny the UPND members the right to vote because they were released immediately after the close of voting after 18 hours.

He has further warned that the PF’s desire to illegally extend President Lungu’s term of office by cancelling next year’s elections should not be taken lightly because they are determined to wipe out the opposition.
