UPND president Hakainde Hichilema says the MMD candidate in Mufumbwe has already been accepted by the people.
Hichilema who has been camped in Mufumbwe for the last week says Stanford Mulusa will win the November 8, 2012 bye-election.
Hichilema whose party UPND is not taking party in the bye-election but backing the MMD is expected to be in the rural constituency until the day of voting.
Hichilema, in the company of former ambassador to Libya Mulondwe Muzungu, has been campaigning in the most remote areas of Mufumbwe.
Hichilema’s arrival in Mufumbwe is said to have boasted morale in the opposition camp and thrown in disarray Steven Masumba’ strategy. Steven Masumba is the candidate for the PF.
Masumba is said to have had some confidence of scooping the seat but has become depressed after seeing how Hichilema has dismantled his campaign.
Hichilema is ever surrounded by residents of Mufuumbwe who want to talk to him wherever he goes including where he sleeps.
President Michael Sata was in Mufumbwe on Saturday but stayed only for a few hours and left for Lusaka after threatening that he will not give people of Mufumbwe money if they vote for the opposition.
