Opposition UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema has supported youths in Southern Province who intend to protest on Monday on the national youth day.
And the UPND youths across the country have joined their counterpart in the MMD to boycott youth day celebrations saying there is nothing for youths to celebrate.
Hichilema said that UPND youths in the region have a democratic right to air their grievances and has urged them to go ahead.
He was responding to questions from Journalists at the party secretariat in Lusaka. Hichilema said that young people should not be suppressed by authorities such as the police when they want to forward their concerns to Government.
“If the police deny Zambians including the youths the freedom to protest, I want someone to explain to me why the police want to quieten the youths to express their views on the Youth Day celebrations. This is the first time this is going to happen in our country,” he said.
“No one needs a permit to celebrate youth day.to express their views. The youths have no employment. Are the cops going to find jobs for the youths? Why are the police officers being abused by Sata?” He asked
