Detained UPND President Hakainde Hichilema’s wife, Mutinta had charged that the treason charge slapped on her husband is politically motivated.
Mutinta Hichilema says it is clear that her husband did not commit any offense considering that the state has been changing the case through amendments.
She also says the current perennial adjournment of the matter is not healthy adding that the motive behind her husband’s arrest is meant to cripple the opposition in the country.
Meanwhile, Mrs Hichilema has alleged that the continued arrest of her husband is meant to eliminate him as he was already tortured by State Police.
Speaking to Journalists at the Lusaka magistrates court this morning shortly after her husband appeared in the treason charge, Mrs Hichilema said that the arrest is meant to stop UPND from offering checks and balances.
And Magistrates David Simusamba has adjourned the matter to the 4th and 5th May, 2017 for the commencement of preliminary inquiry into the alleged committed treason offense.
The preliminary inquiry hearing will be meant to determine whether the UPND President did commit a treason offense or not.
