Hooting MPs found with case to answer

Opposition Patriotic Front Mandevu MP Jean Kapata and her Munali counterpart Mumbi Phiri have been found with a case to answer on charges of unnecessary hooting and disorderly conduct at a police station.

Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate Charles Kafunda found the two parliamentarians each with a case to answer on Tuesday and consequently put them on their defense.

Mr. Kafunda said the state has established a prima facie case against the opposition MP’s on all the three counts.

The Magistrate has set July 19 and 23 respectively as dates for the commencement of trial in the matter.

Mrs. Phiri and Mrs. Kapata both pleaded NOT guilty to the three counts.

Facts before the court are that Mrs. Phiri on count one did hoot unnecessarily while driving a motor vehicle Toyota Spacio on the Great East Road.

Mrs. Kapata is on count two alleged to have on October 2, 2009 hooted unnecessarily while driving a motor vehicle Toyota VIT 3 on the Great East Road.

In count three, the two PF MP’s are jointly charged with disorderly conduct at a police station.
