Some donors including the Norwegian and the Swedish embassy are demanding a forensic audit on the defunct Inter African Network for Human Rights and Development (AFRONET), which was run by Ngande Mwanjiti.

The donors believe there was systematic theft of donor money which Mwanajaiti, the   former human rights activist used to acquire private properties including the house he is currently residing in Avondale.

Mwanajiti who has recently been struggling financially because of the litany of litigation has recently found sanctuary in the corrupt Patriotic Front of Edgar Lungu.

Mwanjiti is currently facing a criminal case of stealing K195 million from government coffers to run an anti- Michel Sata newspaper called ‘the Zambian’ in 2011.
“We have been investigating Mwanajiti over sometime now. The house in Avondale which he claims to be his is actually supposed to be disposed of together with other Afronet properties.

“Mwanajiti used DANIDA funds to pay for that house which by the way is not even in his name. He was directing the Afronet accounts to use donor money in the pretext of paying rent to actually purchase the house. There is another property which he also bought in Woodlands in a similar manner and we are also probing him,” said a source from within the donor community.
According to the source, Mwanajiti was also trying hard to steal some money from a Stanbic account which belonged to Afronet but temporarily frozen pending criminal investigations.
“He has had these financial challenges and we pity him. Imagine just sometime last year he was trying to coerce some former dignitaries to Afronet accounts to steal money which was left over in some project, ” said the source.
After the demise of Afronet Mwanajiti tried to run the Monitor Newspaper which is also now defunct since then he has been hiring himself for all manner of shoddy deals.
He has been living off his wife Pricilla Jere who is director for OneWorld.
The Watchdog will run a series of articles on Mwanajiti to expose how he used to steal donor money and how he used to abuse some of the girls that he used to work with at Afronet.
