Police chief says police have arrested some corrupt MMD members

Zambia Police Inspector General (I.G) Martin Malama has disclosed that several members of the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) that are linked to corruption cases have been apprehended.

Malama told journalists that the police have made progress and have caught several individuals involved in abuse of office, adding that more will be arrested this week to help curb the vice.

He noted that corruption erodes the country’s economy and robs future generations of their national resources so the ZP will do all in its power to ensure culprits face the wrath of the law.

Malama said the dishonesty in some public offices has drastically affected Zambia’s development as funds meant for implementation of projects have been used for the benefit of selfish individuals.

He further disclosed that the police can only go as far as arresting suspected corruption perpetrators but the duty of prosecuting those found guilty lies with the courts of law.
