MMD Lusaka province chairman William Banda has refuted claims by party national Secretary Richard Kachingwe that he has resigned.
And William Banda has declared that he is supporting Situmbeko Musokotwane for MMD party presidency.
MMD national Secretary Richard Kachingwe on Saturday night called a press conference where he said he was accepting the resignation of William Banda. Kachingwe did not say when Banda resigned.
But Banda explained to the Watchdog that he has just taken a few weeks break to attend to personal issues.
Last week, Banda convened a meeting of Lusaka MMD province executive members and informed them that he will be taking a few weeks off and that his deputy will act in his position for the few weeks he will be unavailable.
When MMD National Secretary Richard Kachingwe was briefed, he called a press conference at night at his residence where he told journalists that he has accepted the resignation of Banda.
He told journalists that he has known for a long time that Banda was working with UPND and that he will soon be crossing over.
But Banda told the Watchdog on Sunday that Kachingwe is a liar and is just trying to make sure that his preferred candidate wins.
Banda said he is very upset and warned Kachingwe not to underrate him.
‘Me I a m not a branch chairman politician. I am a seasoned and properly cooked politician. I can take Kachingwe on if he wants to take me on’, said Banda.
He said he has not spoken to Kachingwe and that he never told him that he was resigning. He said he has personal issues that he wants to attend to before he comes back to deal with party issues.
He wondered why Kachingwe is fighting him when he is not being paid by the party despite the huge work he is doing.
Banda told the Watchdog that ‘I want Kachingwe to know that my candidate is Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, and I have my supporters who will support him.’
He continued: ‘Now that Kachingwe has known that my candidate is Dr. Musokotwane, let him also just campaign for his candidate without destroying the party by lying.’
Banda promised to give a comprehensive response at a media conference on Monday afternoon.
He also hinted that Kachingwe’ son has been given a job by the PF government.
