I supported Lungu because I didn’t want HH to be blamed for PF’s failures- Mulongoti

People’s Party (PP) president Mike Mulongoti has disclosed that he supported the PF in the last presidential elections because he did not want UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to be blamed for the bad economy brought by the PF.
And Mulongoti has charged that musician Pilato was merely trying to improve on satire and should not be victimised by the PF government.
Speaking Monday when he featured on Unza Radio, Mulongoti said when he campaigned for Lungu in January he was very sure that the PF had caused enough damage to the economy such that whoever could have taken over from them could have been crucified for nothing.
‘People thought if Hichilema took over in January then things will turn around overnight that is why we said why do we want to take away the cross from the people (PF) who made it,’ Mulongoti said.
He said he did not hate the UPND but did not support them in January because the time was too short to the next elections next year and did not want them to be crucified for the PF’s sins.
Mulongoti stressed that had Hichilema won the 2015 presidential elections he could have been unpopular in 2016 because he was going to inherit empty coffers.
He charged that the PF embarked on projects without planning and dipped their fingers into the treasury as if it was a bottomless pit adding that even the little success the PF has recorded was as a result of the MMD’s good planning.
Mulongoti stressed that the country needs a new group of leaders to take over next year and reform the damaged economy.
He said there was need to have an indaba on how to diversify the economy as opposed to government just making sudden pronouncements that they will start selling lions to raise foreign exchange.
And Mulongoti has charged that musician Pilato was merely trying to improve on satire and should not be victimised by the PF government.
He said there was no need for President Lungu to tell the Police to question Pilato over the song because campaigns have already started and more musicians are preparing their campaign songs.
Mulongoti said Pilato has sent a message through his song titled ‘Alungu Anabwela’ but the song has sent the entire PF group into panic.
Pilato has since been arrested and charged with conduct likely to cause breach of peace through his latest song.
