Alliance for Development and Democracy (ADD) president and mining expert Charles Milupi has observed that the latest drop in power generation by ZESCO will put more pressure on the mining industry.
Milupi said it will be difficult for mining companies to operate under increased load shedding because mining operations require 24 hours of power supply.
He said it was no longer possible for the mines to operate at full capacity when there was a reduction in power generation.
The PF government however said on the day ZESCO announced reduction in power generation that they expect copper production to increase this year.
ZESCO has reduced power generation at Kariba hydro power station from 540 megawatts to 305 megawatts as a result of low water levels. No one has so far explained what happened to the water.
