Information and Broadcasting Minister Kampamba Mulenga has contradicted State House on the enactment of the Access to Information Bill (AIB)
Earlier this week State House Spokesperson Amos Chanda claimed that Cabinet cannot approve the Access to Information Bill twice because it was already approved before it was included in the expanded Bill of Rights which failed in last year’s referendum.
But information Minister Kampamba Mulenga now says people should not push the government to enact the AIB because the draft has to go back to the Ministry of Justice and be tabled before cabinet before it can be enacted.
Ms Kampamba further says Zambians should not push the government over the AIB because the media was not under any threat and claimed that what was happening to Fred M’membe and the Mast Newspaper had nothing to do with infringement of press freedom.
