Innocent pupils among people charged for UNZA riots

Thirty-Eight people including students from the University of Zambia UNZA have pleaded not guilty to the charge of conduct likely to cause the breach of peace.

Two grade twelve pupils from Lusaka High School and a teacher who were also arrested with the students have also pleaded not guilty. The pupils were passing through UNZA when they were captured by police and ended up missing their examinations the next day.

Of the forty-One, 28 students have been released on a Five Thousand kwacha bail, while thirteen that include the two pupils on a five hundred kwacha bail.

The students who appeared before three different magistrates in Lusaka, were arrested on 27th October 2015 during a protest meant to push for an increase in meal allowances in light of the high cost of living.

Trial will commence on 24th November, 8th December and 9th December for the other team.
