Vice President Inonge Wina has hallucinated that the yet to be constructed Batoka Hydro power station will end load shedding in Zambia by next year.
Mrs Wina says this follows an investment of Four billion U.S Dollars under the Batoka Hydro-Electric Scheme at Batoka Gorge.
The fact however is that the Batoka Gorge Hydro power station cannot end Zambia’s load shedding next year because the project is yet to commence and is estimated to be completed in 2023 should there be no further delay. The project has been in pipeline for decades.
The Batoka project will produce 2, 400 Megawatts of electricity to be shared equally between Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Wina was speaking during a dinner hosted by Zambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Muyeba Chikonde at the official residence in London.
