Inonge Wina suffers heart attack, evacuated to SA

Vice President Inonge Wina has just been evacuated to South Africa after suffering a heart attack.

Mrs Wina was first admitted at UTH where president Edgar Lungu visited her and ordered that she should be evacuated to south Africa immediately

A few weeks ago, Mrs Wina returned from India where had been hospitalized for more than a month and underwent surgery.

But government says she is stable and in high spirits.

I would like to inform the nation that we had a health encounter with
Her Honor Mrs. Inonge Mutukwa Wina, Vice President of the Republic
of Zambia and it is prudent that the nation is kept informed.

Last night Her Honour the Vice President was evacuated to the
University Teaching Hospitals in Lusaka where a multidisciplinary
medical team competently treated her for a heart condition.

His Excellency Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu President of the Republic of
Zambia visited Mrs. Wina at UTHs last night. The President commended the multidisciplinary team at the University Teaching Hospitals for the manner in which they competently attended to mrs. Wina.

To consolidate Mrs. Wina’s scheduled review and the anticipated short recuperation period, His Excellency the President has facilitated the evacuation of Mrs. Wina to South Africa for a thorough medical checkup.

Mrs. Wina who is stable and in high spirits was seen off this morning
at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport by the Minister of Health Dr.
Chitalu Chilufya, Minister in the Vice President’s Office Ms. Sylvia
Chalikosa, Acting Secretary to the Cabinet Mr. Patrick Kangwa and
other Senior Government Officials. The country shall be kept
informed as need arises
