Information has emerged that the Southern Africa Center for Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) Executive Director Boniface Cheembe could be a mole for the Patriotic Front.
Several members of the Civil Society Organisation (CSO’s) championing the enactment of the constitution have indicated that Cheembe has of late been exhibiting strange behaviour towards other members of the CSOs.
Sources say Cheembe, in one the meeting convened to strategise on how CSOs can put pressure on government to enact the constitution, exhibited behaviour that suggested that he was there to spy on other NGOs.
Sources further said that even a statement attributed to Cheembe calling for other CSOs to give the Patriotic Front government to enact a new constitution was very unfortunate and did not reflect the views of SACCORD as an organisation.
“He was even quoted saying let us not be antagonistic and let us give the PF government time. Imagine. He is behaving like Goodwell Lungu of Transparency International Zambia who has become a PF cadre together with Bonny Tembo formerly of Anti Voter apathy,” one of the sources said. Mr. Cheembe is further accused to be self centered and does not consult colleagues both under the CSO’s and work place.
“We are told he is self centered even at his work place. He is chewing free money from the Germans who are funding SACCORD” the source said.
It is further believed that Cheembe spends most of his time at Parliament listening to live debates instead of running the once vibrant Non Governmental Organisation.
“SACCORD has become moribund. The organisation is perceived in a very bad way. That is why it is not even invited to most activities now. There is mistrust. Actually we are told his mother once worked under the special branch (OP) the time President Michael Sata was in MMD. He may have been inducted by the mother and could have direct links to Sata,” another source said.
Sources said the board of SACCORD should as matter of urgency convene and investigate Cheembe before he completely destroys SACCORD.
