Zambian dictator Edgar Lungu last week invited senior intelligence officers to State House and asked them why the system was not eliminating what he called trouble makers like UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and former Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili, a State House source has disclosed.
Lungu told the officers that in the past ‘undesirable’ elements like Hichilema and Kambwili would have been eliminated a long time ago.
The officers however categorically refused to agree with Lungu’s assertions that the system has in the past eliminated opposition members and further stated to Lungu that the core function of the intelligence system was to protect Zambian citizens and not to eliminate them.
They advised Lungu that every Zambian has the right to seek for any office they qualify for and that political affiliations can never be a reason for eliminating opponents.
‘ My advice to Hichilema and Kambwili is for them to be security alert as the two have left the President in a serious dilemma, as things stand, a number of Cabinet Ministers are scared that they will be arrested should the PF lose the 2021 elections,’ the source said.
