The Movement for Multi Party Democracy (MMD) in Mwinilunga district in the North-western Province has refuted allegations by opposition Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Wynter Kabimba that the MMD government has destroyed the management of local government systems countrywide.
The MMD in Mwinilunga has also said contrary to the allegations, President Rupiah Banda was keen to improving the operations of local authorities because he had increased budgetary allocations to the Councils.
Mwinilunga West Constituency Secretary, Goodson Kapaku said PF leader Michael Sata should instead be answerable because he was a cabinet minister for Local Government and Housing in the second republic.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS yesterday, Mr. Kapaku said Mr. Kabimba should instead blame the PF leader for putting Councils in a mess and not the MMD adding that people from the opposition PF should be the last to speak on local governance systems.
Mr Kapaku who was reacting to media reports indicating that Mr. Kabimba blamed MMD government for neglecting local authorities resulting in the collapse of local governance systems, cautioned PF to refrain from apportioning blame on the MMD.
And Mr. Kapaku said President Banda’s commitment to improving the local government system in Zambia was evident in his appointment of hardworking ministers like Dr. Brian Chituwo, who he noted was dedicated to duty. He also hailed the increased Constituency Development Fund to K650 million adding that previously this was meagre.
