Japan urges Zambia to get to bottom of embezzlement of donor funds

UTHThe Japanese government has insisted that the Zambian government should get to the bottom of the embezzlement of donor funds at the health ministry.
Japanese ambassador to Zambia Hideto Mitamura told Finance minister Situmbeko Musokotwane that ‘it is important to keep in mind that donor governments must be accountable to their people respectively.”
Ambassador Mitamura said this Friday when  he, on behalf of Japan, signed a grant of K15 billion or US$3.4 Million for the purchase of medical equipment at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

Mitamura said the money is meant the purchase of medical equipment for the departments of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology at the University Teaching Hospital.
He implored government to ensure that the money is used for the intended purpose and is not stolen.
And finance and national planning minister Situmbeko Musokotwane who signed on behalf of Zambia said funds will be put to good use and for intended purpose.
