Job losses as Siavonga mine closes under PF

The Dennison Uranium mine in Siavonga has abruptly closed down sending hundreds of workers into the streets.

Sources tell the Watchdog that the mine’s offices are currently surrounded by armed security personel.

It is not yet clear why the mine closed but sources say the issue on the minimum wage requirement has put the Canadian owners under stress and are not making profits.

The minimum wage that was declared by the PF government to appease low income groups has resulted in job losses in some industries, countrywide strike actions, and also pushed the prices of most commodities upwards as businesses strive to meet the monthly wage bills.
