Kabanda condemns U.K decision to ban aid to nations that uphold gay rights

Citizens Forum Executive Director Simon Kabanda says his organization is saddened by the pronouncement by British Prime Minister David Cameron that his country will withdraw foreign aid from nations that do not reform their legislation to recognise homosexuality.

Speaking to HOT FM, Kabanda said it is unacceptable for Cameron to make such a statement as aid cannot be tied to issues such as same sex relationships.

He noted that fair partners in giving foreign aid or other help must respect the culture and traditions of the nations they are giving financial assistance as a number of them do respect gay rights which are enshrined in their constitutions.

Kabanda also said it would only be right for Cameron to ban financial aid if certain countries the U.K wants to help do not uphold the tenets of democracy and good governance as opposed to homosexuality issues.
