Kabwe District Commissioner on morning Monday humillited an Independent journalist Wilson Pondamali by ejecting him out of a meeting after accusing him working for the Zambian Watchdog.
Pondamali (in the photo) has written to [Patrick Chishala demanding an apology for the humilitaion he suffered in front of other journalists and stakeholders.
Pondamali says Chishala’s action amounts to media rights infringement and says if Chishala does not apologise he will take unspecified action against the DC who is a basic school teacher by profession and is believed to be a close relative of first lady Christine Kaseba.
Pondamali demanded a public apology from Chishala within 48 hours failure to which he says he will sue the DC for the humiliation he suffered by ejecting him from the meeting he went to cover at his office in full view of other journalists from government media houses and other stakeholders for alleging that he belongs to the Zambian Watchdog.
Pondamali has also asked Chishala to substantiate the former’s link with the media and demanded to know whether the Zambian Watchdog was an illegal media house.
“When I worked for the post newspapers, you used to call me for so many functions but when I crossed over to the Daily Nation you have since stopped inviting me and even out of my investigative skills I manage to come for an event you have opted to humiliate me in that manner in full view of other scribes and eminent persons in town,” read Pondamali’s letter which was also copied to MISA Zambia chairperson Nalumino Nalumino, Human Rights Commission and to the Daily Nation.
