Former councillors and MPs James Kapyanga and Sydney Mushanga in collusion with some named directors in the municipality have dubiously sold a play park land to an Asian businessman at K24,000. The developer will now erect a block of shops.
Coronation park which lies on roughly one hectare in a residential area was given out to Unity Distributors of Ndola in spite of resistance from residents. Earlier the council’s attempt was shot down by the full council meeting of last year.
But former Mayor Richard Bango, Mushanga and Kapyanga sat down with then Town clerk Oliver Muuka and some two directors obtained K300,000 from Unity distributors before selling the land at K24,000.
A check by the Watchdog found the land being cleared by a contractor. The councillors deliberately directed the developer to start the development after dissolution of parliament and councils so as to evade legal action. But the one to be messed up ultimately is current Town Clerk Ronald Daka.
