Kaingu threatens to expel UNZA, CBU students

Higher Education Minister Michael Kaingu has threatened to expel protesting students at the University of Zambia-UNZA and the Copperbelt University.

Kaingu has however shifted the blame by accusing opposition politicians he could not name of instigating the student riots.

UNZA students rioted on Tuesday night demanding for an increment in meal allowances. Currently students on government bursary are entitled to K22 per day but government want to reduce this to K18. The meal allowance was last revised when Rupiah Banda was President.

Kaingu appealed to UNZA students to amicably dialogue with government over their grievances but some students charged that government does not respond to dialogue.

On Tuesday night the PF Police force fought running battles with UNZA students calling for increased meal allowances.
