Denny Kalyalya has accepted to leave his big job at the World Bank to take up a risky polical appoitement as Bank of Zambia governor.

Denny Kalyalya is currently the World Bank Group Executive Director for 22 African countries, including Botswana, Burundi, Kenya, Ethiopia, and his home country of Zambia.

But on Friday February 13, 2015, President Edgar Lungu appointed Kalyalya as Governor of the Bank of Zambia with immediate effect. He replaces Michael Gondwe.

PF insiders say the appointment of Kalyalya is another Rupiah Banda arrangement and is aimed at ‘fixing’ political rivals in the business sector.

When he was deputy governor at Bank of Zambia, Kalyalya was instrumental in harassing people seen by Rupiah Banda as political opponents.
