Government has handed over, over K553 million Youth Development Fund to 25 youth groups of western province.
The handing over of the money comes against allegations by the Wynter Kabimba camp that Youths and Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili is misusing the money by giving it to his girl friends and relaltives.
Mr. Kambwili has called on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate him on allegations that he is giving Youth Development Funds (YDF) to his girlfriends and relatives.
Speaking in Mongu when he called on Western Province Minister in Mongu, Mr. Kambwili said he was disturbed by media reports by the Kabimba camp through Kabwata constituency chairman David Silubanji, that he was abusing funds meant for youths.
He said the allegation were not true as the applications for youth empowerment were done at provincial level for the sake of transparency and accountability.
Mr. Kambwili said his office has constituted provincial technical committees to work on applications for youth not based on political patrons but on the viability of the applications.
He added that media reports about him have brought shame on his family who heard it on radio hence the need for the ACC Director to take it up and clear the matter.
The youth development funds loans and grants are ranging from 10 – 50 million kwacha per group.
And Mr. Kambwili has warned that government will not allow the misuse of funds by recipients.
Mr. Kambwili said youths who will fail to pay back the loans risk being sent to prison because the funds are meant to revolve so that other youths can benefit.
Speaking earlier, western province minister, Obvious Mwaliteta urged recipients of the grants and loans to ensure that they work hard and pay back the funds after they have made profit from their business.
And a representative of beneficiaries Muhau Yusiku commended government for disbursing funds to youths of western province.
He praised government for ensuring that there is transparency in the process of disbursing Youth Development Funds.
Western province becomes the 5th province to receive Youth Development Funds since the disbursement started in November this year.
Eastern, Lusaka, Copperbelt and Central provinces have already benefited from the fund.
