Kambwili, son and co accused plead not guilty

Roan Member of Parliament and opposition NDC political consultant Chishimba Kambwili and his son Mwamba have both pleaded not guilty to 39 counts of being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime among other offenses.
The duo took plea before Lusaka Magistrate Mwaka Mikalile this morning.
Kambwili is also jointly charged with Mulenga Kapilima and Branwell Musonda Lukwesa, both officers from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and Mwamona Engineering and Technical Services Limited, a company owned by Kambwili.
Kambwili and his co-accused are alleged to have committed numerous offences ranging from uttering false documents, possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime and obtaining pecuniary advantage.
The two ZRA officers are on their part accused of making false documents. It is alleged that the duo whilst in Kitwe with intent to defraud and without lawful authority or cause, did make a tax clearance certificate for Mwamona engineering and technical services purporting to show that the company was tax compliant when in fact not. It is further alleged that Kambwili dishonestly presented the false tax clearance certificate to ZESCO Limited, resulting in the award of a contract, thereby obtaining pecuniary advantage.
The case has since been adjourned to 20th August, 2018.
