Kapata disolves ZAWA board as Masebo tribunal goes to High Court

maseboAs expected, new Tourism and Arts minister Jean Kapata has dissolved the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) board with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, former Communications Minister William Harrington has been granted leave to seek judicial review over the findings of former tourism Minister Sylvia Masebo’s tribunal.

On the dissolving of the ZAWA board, a source at Ministry of Tourism has disclosed that Ms. Kapata dissolved the ZAWA board in the afternoon of Thursday April, 17 2014.

And the Lusaka high court has granted leave to former Communications Minister William Harrington to seek judicial review on the findings of the Roydah Kaoma led tribunal that Ms. Masebo did not obtain pecuniary advantage when she dissolved the ZAWA board, fired senior managers at ZAWA and canceled duly awarded tenders.

Meanwhile, Lusaka High court Judge Getrude Chawatama has exhibited rare qualities by declaring interest in handling Harrington’s judicial review because she sat on an earlier tribunal that investigated justice Minister Wynter Kabimba.

When the matter came up on Thursday April 17, 2014, Judge Chawatama recused herself from hearing the matter. This means that the matter will have to be re-allocated to another judge.
