Kapyongo blames UPND for the beating, says they should have sought permission from him

Shiwangandu MP Stephen Kampyongo says the UPND campaign team have themselves to blame for the PF brutal beating yesterday because they did not notify him of their impending visit to his constituency.

Kapyongo, who is also Home Affairs Deputy Minister, is accused of having mobilized the panga wielding PF thugs but now argues that the UPND should have told him so that he could clear them in the area.

Some of the cornered thugs yesterday confessed that they were sent by Kapyongo himself to bring down the Helicopter carrying the UPND campaign team comprising Former First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa, Lunte MP Felix Mutati, UPND National Chairperson Mutale Nalumango, Lubanseshi MP Patrick Mcheleka and a Muvi TV reporter.

There is so far no law requiring campaign teams to notify the sitting area MP to clear any meetings in their constituencies.

The UPND team had notified the police according to the requirements of the barbaric Public Order Act, but it now looks like PF regime wants to further stiffen the law to even require the area MP to give clearance.
