The body of a 30-year old man who was allegedly beaten by police officers at Makasa Railway Police station was retrieve from police inquiries room late in the evening Wednesday by police officers from Kasama.

Police sources in Kasama confirmed the retrieval of the body of Peter Mwila Mutale of Ndakala village in Chief Makasa, Mungwi district.
The sources disclosed that three police officers who included an Officer in Charge at the Station were still in Chozi where they had fled after the incident.
Sources added that the body of Peter is lying at Kasama general Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Police sources also revealed that according to the Occurrence Book which has since been collected from Makasa Police station, the victim was charged with obstructing Officers whilst on official duties.
Peter was picked from Ndakala village by police officers who had gone to apprehend a suspect after yelling at them last Tuesday and was allegedly beaten up and left for dead in the inquiries room where he was locked up over night.
