UPND candidate Hakainde Hichilema, MPs Geoffrey Mwamba, Patrick Mucheleka and Felix Mutati Friday afternoon urged the people of Kasama to turn in masses on Tuesday and vote for Hichilema.
The four plus former first lady Maureen Mwanawasa and UNPD chairperson Mutale Nalumango were speaking at a rally in Kasama Friday afternoon.
Meanwhile, UPND campaign manager Dipak Patel has urged Zambians to judge the PF on the their performance in the past three years and not on the desperate things they have been doing the past three days.
Patel issued the following statement:
Judge PF on last 3 years not last 3 days
We are pleased the PF have acted within the seven days ultimatum we issued to lower the price of fuel.
As UPND we have been calling for reductions in the fuel price for a long time.
Our call now is for government to immediately make sure this reduction trickles down to the ordinary citizenry by reducing the cost of transport for both short and long distances.
The cost of mealie meal and other essential commodities must also be brought down, as this is what we have been preaching for the past three years of PF rule.
We should not have had to fight so hard and so long for a reduction in the price of fuel. Government has a responsibility to its people to address the cost of living and ensure even its most vulnerable citizens can afford the basic necessities of life.
Such reductions should not be used as a pre-election give away. The reduction should have happened weeks ago, regardless of whether there is any election planned or not.
We appeal to Zambians to judge the PF on the last three years of failed promises and not just the last three days.
We are glad that so far we have already started giving critical directives on the management of the economy and national affairs from the opposition. We appeal to the Zambian people to vote for Mr Hakainde Hichilema on 20 January 2015 so that we can move Zambia forward together.
