Katete celebrates PF loss in Mkaika as OP hunt ZWD reporters

MkaikaThe whole Katete town  was Friday morning  in a celebratory mood after final results were  announced for the by-election in Mkaika.

Meanwhile Katete is fully packed with police officers looking to arrest anyone in an MMD party regalia. Last night officers including intelligence officers stormed the MMD campaign centre looking for Zambian watchdog reporters for updating results. The OP officers asked people in the MMD team and at the totaling centre to show them who was sending results to the Watchdog. The police said they had been sent to fish out Watchdog reporters from Katete.

The MMD candidate Peter Phiri polled 9054 against PF’s David Phiri who polled 1712,  Narep’S Nigel Mpakateni polled 161 Unip’s Nelson Mwale got 136 votes.

Peter Phiri was declared winner around 01 hours.

PF officials including defence minister Geoffrey Mwamba and PF losing candidate David Phiri fled Katete around 21 hours after their parallel voter tabulation forecast doom for the ruling party.

David Phiri was said to have been in Petauke by 22 hours presumably on his way to Lusaka.
