Former vice-president Enock Kavindele says the country’s vice-president is the immediate and most senior advisor to the president not a chola boy (bag carrier) as put by PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba.
And UPND presidential aide Edward Mumbi has described Kabimba’s remarks as an insult to the office of the vice-president and current constitution.
Kabimba last week said he does not support the presidential running mate clause in the draft constitution because the vice-president is a mere chola boy who should not have any constitutional powers. He said the vice-president only takes assignments delegated to him by the president.
But Kavindele said that in an ideal situation, the vice-president is ‘a solid politician’ who can contribute to national development by exercising powers derived from the constitution.
And Edward Mumbi says his party fully supports the presidential running mate clause as it is progressive.
He said Kabimba is wrong to demean the office of the vice-president when the vice-president is the leader of business in the national assembly.
