Kawambwa gets 16,000 condoms for festive season

The Kawambwa District HIV/AIDS Task Force (DATF) is targeting to distribute 14,000 male and 2,000 female condoms in the area during this festive season.

This is in an effort to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS among  people in the area.

District Coordination Advisor (DACA), Emmanuel Chileya confirmed the development to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Kawambwa yesterday.

Mr. Chileya said the Task Force has so far distributed 7,000 male and 1,000 female condoms in guest houses and lodges, bars, public toilets and the bus station during Christmas.

He stated that the remaining 7,000 and 1,000 male and female condoms respectively will also be distributed during the New Year.

Mr. Chileya said the task force is only distributing the condoms in Kawambwa Central while Churches Association of Zambia (CHAZ) Mbereshi Branch is helping to distribute in the valley in Mwansabombwe.

Meanwhile Mr. Chileya has said there is an improvement in people using condoms in the area and attributed this to the massive sensitization by stakeholders.

He emphasized the need for free distribution of condoms which the task force is spearheading under the Comprehensive Programming Strategy and Operational Plan of 2010 to 2014 programme.
