Chipolopolo U23 centre back Kapota Kayawe is set to be sidelined for at least three months after suffering a fracture on his left leg at the 2015 Caf U23 Africa Cup of Nations.
Kayawe suffered the injury in the second half of the match against Senegal when he challenged for the ball with Senegalese striker Mahamadou Diallo.
Kayawe started all three of Zambia’s matches at the tournament and has consistently been selected to the senior national team under George Lwandamina.
Team physician Dr Mwila Lupasha told fazfootball.com that Kayawe was treated at the Principal Military Hospital in Dakar
“I confirm that Kapota Kayawe got injured in the 67th minute of the match against Senegal. He sustained a fracture of the lower part of his left leg bone (fibula),” said Lupasha.
“He is a young man so recovery may not take long. He is expected to be out of the game for at least 12 weeks.”
