Kenya has pulled out of their friendly game against Zambia that was to be played on 9th February in Nairobi.
KENYA will instead play South Africa on the same date.
This is according to a statement by the South Africa Football Association- SAFA posted on the KICK OFF Web Site and monitored by ZNBC sports today.
The decision has been arrived at after South Africa’s opponent BURKINA FASO pulled out of the friendly game also scheduled for the 9 February which is a FIFA calendar date.
Bafana Bafana Head Coach PITSO MOSIMAANE was Thursday expected to announce a list of players that will play Kenya on Wednesday next week.
But Football Association of Zambia FAZ Vice President BONIFACE MWAMELO said FAZ has not received official notification from the Kenyan Football Association on the pull out.
The Chipolopolo boys were to take on the Harambe stars in a friendly game as preparations for the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Mozambique.
FAZ had named a provisional squad to face Kenya in next Wednesday’s international friendly match in Nairobi.
The team comprises only three local players who include NYAMBE MULENGA of ZESCO United, ALLAN MUKUKA of ZANACO and Green Buffaloes skipper DENNIS BANDA.
FAZ Communications Manager ERIC MWANZA told a press briefing in Lusaka on Wednesday that Egyptian- based striker VENACIOUS MAPANDE had been put on stand-by because of the political situation in that country.
MWANZA said skipper CHRISTOPHER KATONGO and the rest of the European-based professionals are expected to fly directly to Nairobi.
The Chipolopolo Boys are scheduled to leave for Kenya this Sunday to face the Harambee Stars in a friendly match to be played on 9th February, which is a FIFA Calendar date.
The match was to be used as part of Zambia’s preparations for the 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
