Pamodzi residents in Ndola have appealed to government to rehabilitate and tar the Mwanawasa road which connects Pamaodzi and Kawama Townships which was left unfinished bys the late president.
One of the residents, Mathew Nkole, told ZANIS in Ndola that the road was a major route and short-cut between the two townships.
Mr Nkole said the road must be tarred because that was the promise the late President made to the people of Pamodzi and Kawama when he was Chifubu Member of Parliament but could not finish the project because of politics of the time.
He said the late President Mwanawasa resigned midway and failed to finish his project which the current administration should finish in his honour.
Mr. Nkole said president Mwanawasa was a good leader and should be emulated by his successors and presidents to come because he genuinely hated corruption.
He urged government to finish the project before the onset of the rainy season because the road was also used as a major connector by peasant farmers who were farming in the border areas with Congo.
He added that the road was a major political campaign tool in 1991 when the late republican president first stood for the Chifubu Constituency seat at the dawn of multi party politics.
Mr Nkole said the late president served as MMD Vice president and republican Vice President under President Frederick Chiluba in 1991 until his resignation in 1994 due to allegations of corruption in government.
