An Accountant at Water Engineering Company in Kitwe was on Tuesday robbed of K62million (K62,000 rebased) meant for employees salaries when she went to eat Chicken Shawarma at one of the restaurants in the city centre.
The accountant, a woman is alleged to have withdrawn the money from ZANACO bank in Kitwe in the late afternoon and decided to eat Sharwama in one of the restaurant when the robbery took place.
Kitwe District Police Commanding officer Fred Mulenga confirmed the incident and said that six people including the accountant herself were being held for investigations.
Mr Mulenga said, apart from the six who were being held by the police, a Toyota Corolla vehicle registration number ALJ 9512 which was linked to the robbery was also impounded by the police.
Mr Mulenga declined to disclose more details on the robbery, but referred all queries to the Copperbelt police Commanding officer Mary Tembo, who could not answer her phone by press time.
“Yes, i can confirm that we are investigating the case in which an accountant at water engineering company was robbed of K62,000 meant for employees salaries.
“We are actually holding six people including the accountant herself in connection with the robbery. We are also holding a vehicle which was used in the same robbery, but for more details talk to the Copperbelt police Chief Ms Tembo, said Mr Mulenga.
