Kitwe deputy mayor breaks wife’s leg

KITWE Deputy Mayor and Wusakile ward Councilor Francis Miti on Thursday severely beat up his wife, Suzanne Kapemba and broke her leg before assaulting his sister in law, Maggie Jilombo, who was trying to stop the fight because the two were on separation and needed to resolve issues amicably.
When contacted for a comment, the deputy Mayor promised to get back to the  Journalist, but could not get back by press time.
Mr Miti beat up his wife and broke her leg when she went to collect her clothes from the Deputy Mayor’s home and also find out why he was not coming for  court session so that their marriage could formally end after being on separation.
Mr Miti started throwing the clothes of his wife outside, before he grabbed her by the neck and started beating her.
When she fell down, Mr Miti told his wife that he would kill her and even stepped on his chest.
At this time, neighbours  informed, Mr Miti’s elder sister  that her sister was about to be killed by Mr Miti . She rushed to go and stop the fight.
When she tried to stop the fight, Mr Miti hit her with a mug cup, resulting into a big cut on her cheek.
Copperbelt provincial police commanding officer Mary Tembo confirmed the incident, but could not give any details because she was still waiting for a full report from the Kitwe District Police Commanding Officer.
“I can’t say anything now, because am still waiting for a full report from the District Police Commanding officer,” Ms Tembo said.
Narrating the incident, Maggie Jilombo, who is the assaulted sister in law to the deputy Mayor, said that when her sister went to Mr  Miti’s  residence to find out why he was not coming for court session so that  their marriage could end formally, Mr Miti started throwing her sister’s clothes outside.

Ms Jilombo, who suffered a cut on her cheek, while trying to stop Mr Miti  from beating her  sister, said the deputy Mayor hit her with a mug cup.
“After throwing my young sister’s clothes outside, he started beating her up  and when i tried to stop him from beating her ex-wife who is my young  sister, he picked up a mug cup and hit it with me and i suffered this  cut on my cheek. I also fell down with blood oozing from the cuts ,” Ms  Jilombo said.
After realizing that he had committed an offense by assaulting two sisters,  Mr Miti went and reported to Wusakile police station that he had been  attacked at his residence.
“When he saw that he had assaulted both of us, he ran away and reported to  Wusakile Police Station that he had been attacked,” Ms Jilombo said.
Some sources said after reporting the matter to the police, he also reported to police higher authorities in the district who in turn gave  instructions to lock up the two assaulted sisters, but police officers  at Wusakile station refused to carry out such instructions because it  was clear that Mr Miti was the one who had assaulted the two sisters who had big cuts oozing blood.
And Ms Jilombo said Mr Miti decided  to marry her sister after he allegedly raped her and so for fear of  being taken to court and possibly being convicted, he decided to calm  down the situation by marrying her.
She said Mr Miti lived in marriage with her young sister Suzanne for two years and six months before he decided to divorce her.
“Mr Miti married my sister after he raped her and they only lived in  marriage for two years six months before he decided to divorce her. We  later realized that he just wanted to avoid prosecution in the courts of law after he raped her,” He said.
Some PF cadres and residents  of Wusakile Township said Mr Miti was a well known womanizer and  currently has three girl friends, one in Wusakile, the other in Police  Camp and the other in Ndeke Township where he was even rearing chickens.

And speaking in an interview, Kapemba said she had refused getting married to Mr Miti because she knew that he was a womanizer, but he pleaded with her so that he could keep him.
She said that despite refusing getting married to him, Mr Miti insisted that they should get  married and even moved into her house.
“Although he moved into my house, I refused having sex with him until we went for Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT), but he forced himself on me. I mean he raped me. After raping me, I still insisted that we go for VCT, but he wanted to do a staged managed VCT by going to clinic where his friend would say he was negative.
“Instead of both of us going for VCT, we would go to the clinic where him a,lone would go and see the doctor, leaving me outside. What kind of VCT is that? Now that he has made me HIV positive and has broken my leg, i want this PF government to punish him.
“He should not go scot free. He is a leader and so he should not just abuse women like that. I want to see him punished,” Ms Kapemba said

Some sources said after reporting the matter to the police, Mr Miti also reported to police higher authorities in the district who in turn gave  instructions to lock up the two assaulted sisters, but police officers  at Wusakile station refused to carry out such instructions because it  was clear that Mr Miti was the one who had assaulted the two sisters who had big cuts oozing blood.
